Memories in 3D

We can print in plastic, wood and bronze filaments!

Our wood prints are created using a special PLA resin that contains 40% wood powder.

Wood prints are easily sanded for a smooth finish and can then be stained with the wood stain of your choice to create a beautiful statue for display in your home.

Wood is our favorite medium due to the natural look it provides.

Finishing tips

Wood prints can be easily finished by you at home. Simply sand with a 320 grit sandpaper to remove any ridges from the print then stain with the wood stain of your choice. There are a range of wood-stains available at hardware stores such as Mitre10 or online via TradeMe.

Once stained the print can be sealed using a polyurethane sealer to enhance the stain.

This amazing one of a kind filament produces an amazing print. Straight from the printer parts look almost laser sintered with a matte finish.

With a bit of sanding and polishing the bronze particles will start to shine and shimmer unlike any 3d printing filament you have seen before. The weight of the material is something special, about 3 times heavier then our regular PLA.

Finishing Tips

If you have access to a rock tumbler then you can polish your 3D bronze printed Clone to a beautiful finish by following the instructions on the Adafruit website here

Sanding and polishing your parts will make the bronze particles shine. Start sanding with grit 120-180 and make sure all the printed lines vanish. You’ll notice that because bronzeFill is easy to sand down, careful you won’t loose too much detail. Then start working your way up by following with grit 240-320 and finishing off with grit 600 – or higher. Finally we used a clean soft cloth and some copper polish to really get all of the shine out of the bronze particles.

Once the print is sanded you can give it the ‘aged’ look by using a wax patina or a true patina using a mixture of miracle grow plant-food, red wine vinegar and salt. Mix the vinegar and plant food together and add salt to form a thick paste. Cover the print in this and leave for a day, then polish to reveal a beautiful patina. Remember to use gloves!

Polylactic Acid (PLA) is different than most plastics in that it is derived from renewable resources like corn starch or sugar cane. We use PLA as it is non-toxic and recyclable, any prints that have issues ar re-cycled to make more filament.

PLA is available in may different colours, we currently carry black  and white as standard but can print in other colours as a special order if you so wish.

PLA can be sanded to create a smooth finish ready for painting or covering in different media such as epoxy resin or paint.

Finishing Tips

PLA prints look great without any extra work needed, but if you want to enhance the print, then the easiest way is to paint!
